Pros

People are good. Lunch and learns and chance to move forward in your career learning. Remote work when you want. I do 2 home/2 office and one day flips often. Overtime is optional, but offered if the project needs it. Management is mostly friendly and trying to learn how to grow the company and keep things friendly and welcoming for everyone. Great benefits package

Cons

Very male dominated in the dev area. Fairly common for the industry. "Coaching" system is more about how to move up in consulting and deal with customers and management, not much in the way of help in learning dev techniques beyond the lunch and learns (which are great). "Onboarding" consisted of telling me my benefits, giving me a brief run down about the company, an introduction to the partners and then a laptop. For someone who had never worked in a agile dev environment, nor on a project anywhere near this size, it was a bit jarring. But to be clear, both the onboarding and the lack of clear Development career path are both being fixed this month hopefully, so fingers crossed. (Will update after if needed)

Pros

Experience: your experince at Capco, much like life (or college/university), is all about what you do with it. If you want to get in on coaching, you need to ask to get involved. If you want to build a practice inside the company, you have to take charge. If you want to do sales, you have to fight for it. If you want to have a background role, you can also fall into that. You have to make your own waves here or else you will fade into the background. Work/Life: There is a balance but you do have to be vocal in express that with your peers and partners. It varies from project to project, and partner to partner, but all in all everyone at Capco recoginizes that there is more to life than work Enviornment: Unlike most consulting companies this is a more relaxed fun environment. People are friendly and helpful. The office has an upbeat sense with drinks, events, etc.

Cons

Salaries: are higher than industry equivalent jobs but lower than consultant jobs as a whole Promotion: you have to be visible in the company. If you do not know how to network or market yourself, growth will be difficult. And to some extent you are at the mercy of your "coach" who has to vouch for you - if they are weak, your promotion is seen as weak. Responsibilities - around 40-60% of projects are truly staff augmentation roles. i.e. PMing a project for a client, Business analyst for a client, etc Benefits : are on the 'lower' side compared to other firms and their own clients. This is an area of improvement for sure. The package with Great west life leaves little room. Development : This is by far the biggest challenge for Capco, and many consulting firms. Capco just throws you into a project with no training - including Capco style of execution, templates to use, etc. There is a real Gap (opportunity within Capco to standardize the practice and information within Capco. Many have tried but it does not seem to be a high mandate at the Partner table. There needs to be an official function responsible for this in an org of over 500 people in Toronto
