Pros

They are a large company and many transfer options are available. They are involved in many industries so it's easy to find a project that you'll enjoy.

Cons

Getting a raise is like pulling teeth. The most effective way to get one is to get an offer from another place, which also creates animosity with your manager. There is a lot of redundant overhead, and the internal IT department is very slow and difficult to get a hold of.

Pros

The company is ever changing and it puts value in its members that deliver. It is a very large company that is trying to become a global leader. Its strategy of keeping a local focus works. There is a focus on each member's well being. Personally I enjoyed the Oxegen program, an employee wellness program, where member can go to the gym during lunch. There are also seminars where member can get to know more about healthier living. The montreal office being downtown is easy to get to by public transportation. It is a company with solid management, and generally make the right decisions.

Cons

Managers are consistently changing. Re-orgs are porly done. Your enjoyment of the company depends on the department you are in. The salary renumeration is poor. If you are joining CGI for competative salaries, please look elsewhere. Once in, it is difficult to achieve significant salary increases. You are best to leave CGI work for another company then come back, as any salary increase over 10% requires the approval of the CEO. An ackward position to be in for a member who has peformed and a manger that believes in his employee. as per fairness and respect, it is all depentant on who you get, like any company. Career opportunities are fine if you are new to the business. A seasoned expert will be out of luck.

Pros

There are many technical opportunities for growth especially if you are bilingual and speak French. There is a genuine lack of experienced resources and many opportunities for employment in many technical fields. If you want to move to other offices globally, you can easily make the connections and potentially move elsewhere (at your own expense).

Cons

Key decision makers and and the management approach is all based on the Montreal head-office perspective. Management in Montreal seems to have little time for trying to understand how the people and teams function in the Toronto area and expect treatment of clients and the way things get done to be the same. The management layer demands you be politically savy and develop tight relationships with the Montreal management.
