Pros

The learning curve is very steep. You are given a ton of responsibility right away and there are a vast number of resources and mentors that support you along the way. The level of exposure to a variety of industries and functions is also a big plus, especially if you are not sure what your long-term career goals are. The perks are great. In addition to a good base salary, BCG offers high performance and signing bonuses, profit sharing, 15 days PTO, and a generous expense account. Expect to stay in the nicest hotels and eat at the most expensive restaurants on a regular basis.

Cons

Although BCG prides itself on a strong work-life balance, this is hardly the case. 70+ hour weeks are the norm, so on a per-hour basis, we are definitely under-compensated compared to our peers in investment banking. Also, in the San Francisco office, there appears to be a lack of strategy-oriented work. Most of the work has recently been operational and process-oriented for non-Fortune 100 companies. Also, there is very poor communication from upper-management regarding staffing, promotion decisions, bonuses, the business pipeline, etc. This has led to a toxic office culture characterized by rather unhappy employees (especially at the more junior levels).

Pros

Stable international consulting company with good compensations and reputation. If you are in consulting cohort your career seems to be fast moving,

Cons

Work-life balance isn't good at all. Significant difference between consulting and so called support staff - the latter are disrespected from time to time.

Pros

BCG gives you the opportunity to have a great deal of responsibility at a very early early stage in your career. As an entry-level employee (Associate or Consultant depending on previous experience), you are critical to the success of or projects that have very high visibility with senior executives at major corporations. While you might not interface with senior clients as often as the partners with whom you work, you develop deep contacts within organizations as you formulate and implement recommendations. Furthermore, the culture at BCG is very non-hierarchical. Debate with more senior members of your case teams (including partners) is encouraged, and the hypothesis method discourages blindly applying existing frameworks to new problems.

Cons

In my experience, the most negatives aspects of working at BCG are related to lifestyle. While the firm's leadership has admirably tried to instill a culture that encourages time away from work, in practice the lifestyle can be very difficult. Team members typically work into the night during weekdays and often can have a significant amount of work pushed to weekends. Moreover, many consultants spend four days per week on the road, often traveling significant distances. Unfortunately, the travel requirements typically do not diminish as you grow more senior, as partners often have clients in several different cities that they need to visit on a regular basis.
