      Decent money if in good group. Lots of talk and no action

      Pros

      Good benefits, solid work environment. Some good groups to work in. Realatively stable work environment with only the occasional - 'house-cleaning' re-org.

      Cons

      Some of the most back biting, incompetant techical managers around. Has turned into one of those firms where 10% of the people make 80% of the total compensation. If you're at middle management or below, whilst they pay well and the benefits are good - don't look for any wall street numbers (unless, possibily, if you're in a research group)

      Barclays Capital is a great environment for those who want to work hard and progress their careers

      Pros

      Barclays Capital offers a professional and friendly working environment, good opportunities for career progression and internal mobility. I have worked for them 4 times longer than at any other employer in my career and this is entirely due to the variety of roles I have performed during this time and the opportunities offered to me.

      Cons

      As with most investment banks, the hours can be hard. However, that's pretty much a matter of personal choice. Also, they can be pretty ruthless when it comes to "poor" performance. It's a fairly regular occurrence for the bottom 10 per cent to be cleared out

      Thanks for taking the time to write a review and really great to hear that you have been able to build a strong career with us and take advantage of internal opportunities. I would like to comment that we do have a strong performance culture to ensure we are supporting our colleagues to manage their jobs and careers. We do not have a "clear out" culture however, like all organisations, the colleague and the culture need to be suited to each other and sometimes they need and want different things.
