Pros

People are very nice, diverse group of staff and age ranges working there. Some extremely hard working people in store. Diverse and interesting products and customers reflect all of society.

Cons

Really not a customer focused company. Very focused on task and process, not at all focused on customers. Very very tight on staffing levels and pay is, in general not reflective of the work levels expected. I joined as a Manager from a different type of retail. 8 weeks of induction..... no structure to the training and I was left to my own devices. With no previous background in diy I was given next to no guidance. The different department or trading Managers just don’t talk to each other, and the different departmental staff rarely venture from their own aisle to help each other. As a retailer it was shocking the actual lack of customer service available. The most shocking thing was the obscene amount of stock loss through inaccurate stock counts and horrendous levels of theft in the two stores that I experienced. Management in the store are very very stuck in their ways. There is now commitment to make thing better, or easier. In store management teams don’t believe in the vision for the company and don’t want to change. If you enjoy speaking to customers and helping them out then this isn’t the company for you either as a manager or member of staff. Don’t expect anything to get repaired or replaced unless it’s legally required or a massive safety issue. They will not spend a penny on anything. Pay levels are not good compared to the responsibilities expected. Don’t expect a bonus, nigh on impossible to hit. Hourly paid staff work their backsides off, but the rewards are pathetic. Virtually no addition benefits to working in store other than 20% in store discount. Product range changes are rolled out, new product ranges on the Unify program. Basically making all the store throughout Europe the same.... however selling product ranges from Poland and France at the expense of popular British products just won’t work in the long run.

Pros

The people are great and the (optional) social life that comes with it (if you're not finishing at 9/10pm or starting the next day at 5am).

Cons

- shift work -lots of late shifts - not spoken to nicely by management and supervisors. - customers - no resources to effectively do the job. - overall treated badly by company (pay cuts and now much longer working days 5am-10pm) and management/supervisors (spoken to horribly)

Thanks for your honest review, and sorry to hear that you've been negatively affected by our recent restructure. Our people are our biggest asset, so good to hear that you valued the social life that came with the role; and we'll be sure to share that with your store. Regards your comments about Managers within that specific store, we'll make sure this is fed back to the relevant Regional Manager in order to raise awareness and hopefully make improvements for the future. Hopefully you felt able to share this feedback during your 3 years with us so these concerns were addressed at store level. We wish you all the best for your future career, and thanks for the time you spent with B&Q.
