Good job for when you have no other options
Pros
- easy to get the job, you don't need any experience, qualifications or references - most of the staff are friendly and helpful - lots of overtime available if you want it
Cons
- you don't find out your shift times until a week before, can be as late as the day before which makes having a life outside of work difficult to arrange and make plans - no online system to see rota or contact management, all communication is done in person and very little over the phone, makes planning holidays or swapping shifts difficult when you don't work many days of the week - pay is poor, absolute minimum for age range, no benefits or praise for doing a good job - customers are very rude - lots of unpaid workers on work experience that do a poor job make the shop floor quite messy, this leads to angry customers complaining at the till staff when prices are different to what they saw on the shop floor - no name tags so if you're bad with names and have to use the tannoy all day it can make the job hard when customers constantly ask you to get a coworker to check the price of something - lots of things not working (heating wasn't working in winter when i was employed, tills broke etc.) isn't fixed for a long time and can be replaced with something from another store that is old and faulty too -super hot in summer, no air conditioning, makes working unbearable - a lot of the time there is nothing to do, constantly have to ask managers for jobs that need doing
