Pros

* Global news organization. * Good name to have on resume. * Decent opportunities to move around if you want to. * Collective bargaining agreement protects against abusive management.

Cons

* Pay is lower than at other newswires. * Deteriorating benefits. * The current CEO decimated the newspaper chain he led before joining AP by making very poor business decisions. * Talent is fleeing.

Pros

Excellent journalism brand, great colleagues

Cons

Terrible upper management, good old boys network, atmosphere of doing more with less, expected to work long hours for free, women are mommy-tracked, veterans (good ones -- not disgruntled do-nothings) driven out for young people with little journalism decision-making background

Pros

The AP is great place to work but it depends on the department. There are some amazing and dedicated people working at the AP. For the most part the people are friendly. Most people at the AP are hard workers and are real pleasure to work with.

Cons

Unfortunately, I worked in one of the bad departments. The probelms are many. HR is not be trusted. HR will take no constructive actions to defuse potential conflicts between bad managers and their employees. There isn't sufficient training. and unrealistic work expections. No pay raise. Constant changes and no real sense of direction from management. Departments within the AP are often in conflict with other. No action is taken to punish or get rid of bad managers even after numerous complaints.
