Influence - among dated business practices

Pros

- upper management really listens to your ideas and wants to take action - offered a tremendous amount of autonomy and independence - not micromanaged - fair pay - great bennefits - having The Associated Press on your resume

Cons

- though upper management is interested in your ideas, there is no mobility or budget to do anything to follow through on ideas - incredibly dated company that is having a hard time modernizing to the digital and social media age - feel like I am stuck in a bad office sitcom from the 90's - as a younger employee, I am an anomaly; most of the workers are middle aged, no youthful culture - you are frustrated everyday by internal and external systems and the lack of resources to really have an impact on change

The high level of professionalism. Friendly working environment.

Cons

Limited mobility in terms of upper management. During critical periods, management will push for deadlines.

Can be a sweatshop

Pros

If you've got ambition and are young, there are opportunities to be involved in coverage of the biggest stories of the day. AP Washington tends to promote young, inexperienced and less expensive reporters for top jobs covering national politics.

Cons

Some of the more knowledgeable, experienced, older reporters get put out to pasture, which is a real shame. It's exactly the opposite at some of the most respected news organizations in the country.
