Pros

You get to work on interesting projects surrounded by smart people. You get to work in partnership with some big names in the industry. There are interesting talks from all around ARM every week. I make regular use of the personal training and gym access (although the gym is unusable at peak times especially after work).

Cons

Starting work can be a little overwhelming at first and the expectation is that you transition to working independently quite rapidly. Training is often independent and unstructured as projects are often understaffed already, especially in software. Cambridge is an expensive place to live and you can get better pay elsewhere (although ARM's compensation is better than some might have you believe).

Pros

I'm half way through my one year placement and have absolutely loved my time here. From the very beginning I felt that my work was meaningful and I was welcomed as part of the team. Work/Life balance is great, as an intern we are not expected nor allowed to work from home. You also get 25 days paid holiday per year. The work itself is challenging but I never felt it was too much, and my manager was always there to give advice. The most important thing is that I felt like my work is making a difference. The socials are great, there are christmas&halloween parties as well other socials like bowling, office parties and pub meals. There are also other oppertunies to do training; for example I did fire marshal training while at work and had the oppertunity to do first aid training as well. The pay is more than enough to cover expenses and have plenty left over.

Cons

I can't think of any cons right now. It was a little difficult at first to change my mindset to a 9-5 work day from working whenever I felt like it while at uni.

Thanks for leaving a review! I'm glad to read that you're enjoying your work with us, especially from a smaller office! We do value our employee's work-life balance, as we believe a rested and happy employee is a productive employee. You also mention social activities, I highly recommend getting involved with TeamARM, as that will allow you to get to know your fellow coworkers in a shared interest that also benefits the local community! -Rick C. Pros

There is a very open culture with limited of hierarchy. The "Lunch and Learn" sessions are varied and at least some of them will be thought-provoking regardless of your interests. All backed up and filed for you tp pursue your own interests.

Cons

Be prepared to work across silos. There are still some and wariness of ideas from elsewhere.

Thanks for leaving a review! I love attending the "Lunch and Learn" sessions as well, and I'm not an engineer :) We pride ourselves on having an open culture, which can sometimes lead to helping across silos like you stated. With the new AFDS logbook in place, the goal is to make the complete assessment/review process transparent, while new D&I initiatives should help improve innovation coming from all parties. We do hope that you consider working for ARM again in the future! -Rick C. Social Recruiting Manager
