Pros

Recognised name in the industry. Access to state-of-the-art hardware and software years before official releases. Opportunity to get in touch with a large amount of big names in the industry and build relationships.

Cons

Mostly no products - no focus at all on execution and delivery Lot of duplicated work between teams, almost absent communications between groups working on the same things - eventually this leads to re-organisations and layoffs Incredible amount of middle managers and self-declared tech leads who don't really lead anything, apart for their career in some safe spot. You can pass your day basically doing nothing and nobody will ever complain, unless you don't get along with the management, than they will pick on you on the next round of layoffs Went downhill since Softbank acquisition, as Softbank is either using Arm for financial/political reasons or they don't have a clue of what to do with it - basically late on every possible market expansion opportunity apart from mobile (AI, servers, autonomous driving, etc). Lots of inexperienced hires doing fundamental technical work, hence the work created on top of that will be flawed. No exit interview.

Pros

Amazing pace of growth which of course comes with its challenges but rather those challenges than that of decline and stagnation. Softbank brings a longer term vision and ambition which is inspiring and takes some getting used to but an amazing group to be part of. Majority of the organisation has a flexible approach to the individual preferences for work life balance and whilst the work is intense presentism is not apparent. Organisation is working hard to get the basics right and keep up with the expansion. Recent launch of the Reward Flex pot where every individual has a pot of money to invest in development, health and wellbeing or charitable giving and its a reasonable value £4,500 in UK - $8,000 in the USA and its the same whether you are a Graduate or on the ExecutiveCommittee. (plus for the cynics the central training budget has been maintained). I personally would not want to work anywhere else right now.

Cons

Dont come to ARM and expect not to be stretched and challenged. Be prepared for frequent change as the technology and the markets we address are changing at an incredible pace. Not everything is perfect but everyone is working hard to make it better.

Thank you so much for taking time to leave a review. It is great to hear what you think Arm is all about, and honestly speaking about what we are not. Arm is evolving so fast and we're not perfect either so constantly iterating, improving and testing helps us continually try to be better!

Pros

It's taking more time than expected to figure out what the pros are. - Decent Pay. - The implanted idea that you are a part of a very agile company driving the mobile revolution.

Cons

Let me elucidate. When compared to my earlier organization, a large enterprise that embraces open-culture, ARM happened to be very closed and compartmentalized. It took me a while to get used to this strictly-need-to-know-basis work environment. One observation that strikes me is the pessimistic and at times un-professional attitude of managers towards their own team members. Given their desire to quickly climb the ladder and gain some more RSUs, this is not a surprise. But what really moves me is the fact that one's manager strives to create an environment where one should compete with one's own peers even if the overall outcome is against the best interest of the project. Here, each man is on his own and must be in good terms with manager. Even more befalling is the fact that if a particular delivery is appreciated by the higher management, manager takes full credit for it with names of engineers who tirelessly worked for it are silently removed from the slide deck. On the flip side, if work runs into some unforeseen issue, the engineers is given full blame and the slides are decorated with them. If one's manager himself is not supporting the team-members, who will ? Nothing could be further from the truth. No matter how many programs and surveys come up, its of no use as they are all cosmetic. Unfortunately, I could not see the place where change should begin as I am not sure whom to en-trust my observations and still keep my job. There is a popular saying : "People Leave Managers, Not Companies." and it perfectly applies to this office.
