Pros

Absolutely none. Physical injury is fine and it is well supported, but mental illness means you’ll be terminated with zero support, not even one phone-call from your boss while you’re off sick to ask how you’re doing or to enquire what’s wrong and what support you need.

Cons

Zero support in difficult times despite their many protestations to the contrary. If you are struggling in any way, do not expect any help or support. I had zero contact from my line manager while I was off sick for the first time due to mental illness. I was invited to a check-in call after many weeks of being off sick and I was told on the call that my role was being made redundant. Who does that? Simply appalling! If the way a company treats its employees in good times and bad times is important to you, then run away as fast as you can and join one of their competitors! Worst company and leadership ever.

Pros

Can generally work flexible hours. Have formed friendships with some great people. Randomly announce extra perks here and there - such as bonus days off, gifts etc

Cons

Your experience totally depends upon what team you are in. The managers I've had have all been lacking in one way or another - such as no interest in what you are doing, giving as little contact time as possible, and using bullying micro aggressive behaviours to get what they want from you. Theoretically Arm want to do the right thing for their people, and they say this over and over again - things like there's no limits placed on how many people are promoted each year, it's a meritocracy, they support diversity, they see their employees as people etc. However, in practice, there is more importance placed on pleasing upper management over making sure team members needs are met and creating a happy working environment. I have seen colleagues denied promotions when they are already performing at or above the criteria of the next grade. When concerns are raised with HR, you are treated as a tick box exercise. They do little to actually help you. Forms filled out to outline issues never see the light of day. A lot of the time things that should be simple to do wind up taking way too long due to inefficient processes. e.g. recruitment is a joke, with candidates often having long periods of time where they hear nothing. Company has been restructured so many times in the last couple of years that it's impossible to know where you fit anymore. The best and most talented colleagues leave after getting fed up with the work environment. Grads are often left stranded when their mentors move on. Some managers literally do nothing / produce minimal output, yet they have happily sat in their jobs for years.
