Pros
Very respected brand, great work/life balance, still one of the credit card companies doing well in this economy, opportunities for professional growth/learning.
Cons
Limited career advancement opportunities, especially at lower levels. It's discouraging to see so many external hires and that they are paid more than those promoted internally - shows how much they care about company loyalty. Can get passive-aggressive at times and a highly matrixed environment can mean headaches to complete any project. At such a large company it's easy to become just another face and takes a lot of effort to network, which is practically required for most job postings. In the 2009 recession they cut 401K matching and all incentive programs, leaving little to no motivation to go "above and beyond" your required work. They also cut Sr. Exec pay by 10% but returned that before they returned the 401K matching. Contributions often go unnoticed and unappreciated or claimed by others. Innovation is a completely joke - by the time a new product is actually launched it's so watered down it's not even worth it.
