Pros

-People: you meet real friends (trauma bonding). The people employed are very young and come and go. I insist on this point as this is the only thing that'll keep you going. -Office: with free food and free drinks

Cons

I don't know where to start. I wish I had read a review before accepting the offer and believed it! -Interest in the job: Honestly, if you've had a stimulating education, you'd better move on... Your job can be broken down into two parts: searching for people on Linkedin, sending emails, pestering this pool of potential experts by email, telephone, text message, etc. (70%) ; calling experts to assess if they're a fit for a project. The first part is terribly boring. You'll be led to believe during the interviews that you'll be studying the value chain of a market, etc. this is not true (30%). The second part can be interesting at times, but as you have to work fast, don't expect to ask the experts too many questions. The best performers don't even adapt their questions to the project. -Ethics: You'll be harassing people. A lack of response isn't a response for them, so you'll chase by mail, sometimes 5 times or more. If that doesn't work, you'll start calling them on their personal cell phone out of the blue. You'll also send them texts. In short, all means are good. You won't always feel comfortable because they'll ask you how you got access to their personal information, and why you're harassing them. Most of the time, you'll be borderline about the projects' goals, so as not to scare them. -Micromanagement: You'll work for a manager who micromanages you with morning and afternoon boards and many slack messages. It's not their fault, the policy is standardized. -Client: Assume you'll be working for financial people (I was on the PE team) who have no regard for what you do other than your ability to work long hours (a little). As a result, they'll be rude most of the time, and won't hesitate to ghost you if the project you're working on no longer interests them... You won't be able to say anything because 1) you're working in customer service, 2) you're competing with at least 3 other providers each time, and since you don't have anything to differentiate you from the competition, you've got your tail between your legs. -Targets: Of course, your targets are closely scrutinized, but that's hardly shocking in a sales job. -Career opportunities: Pay attention to something. You can become a manager after 2-3 years, and a VP after a further two years. It seems that the titles are “inflated”. For example, some VPs leave the company and find a job as a manager. Managers at Alphasights are in fact more project leaders. You won't be able to pass on any points to your superiors. Some people look like they've been brainwashed into being good little soldiers for the leadership team. In short, either you're interested in the money and being stimulated by your job isn't an important factor: go for it! If you're not that person, move on.

Pros

It is a job that pays a salary.

Cons

Extremely toxic environment that squeezes the soul out of the naive young fresh graduates. Young incompetent management will blame the young employees for anything instead of taking responsibility. You are not allowed to be sick, nor sleep at night. The management will blame you for literally everything.

Pros

AlphaSights teaches you basic business communication, sales, and customer service. It's a decent starting place for anyone who doesn't know exactly what they want to do. It teaches people how to do a lot of menial tasks on a super tight timeline. It's also fun to start your career with a "cohort" of people right out of college. Easy relationship building is definitely important.

Cons

The 8am-6pm hours are untenable. You can't find a single person at AlphaSights who are content with their free time outside of work (except maybe the VPs who are basically just managing managers). There is 100% pressure to work past 6pm because our clients are online at that time. But AlphaSights doesn't pay people like they work at a hedge fund or a consulting firm. The vibe at AlphaSights is just people who are sticking around waiting to see who quits around them. The leadership at AlphaSights are just people who were promoted at AlphaSights and have no other experience in other roles. That creates an echo chamber and people who are just promoted for being nice to their bosses. There is very little real leadership to speak of and most people hired were interviewed by unqualified leaders. Also, definitely some sketchy behavior by the most leadership at company-wide events. TLDR: pay people more if you want them to work hard. Don't work kids out of college until they quit with the promise of a "manager" title, which is a 24/7 customer service associate role

At AlphaSights, we hire ambitious professionals who want to own results, build a track record of achievement, and accelerate their careers. We accept that we are not a place for everyone. Career success is core to our philosophy, and we go to great lengths to make sure the rules are clear and the rewards are attractive. We regularly benchmark our compensation and peg it such that our top performers can match or outearn their peers at global top-tier employers. We are open about the fact that the first two years are tough: our Associates take on frontline responsibility that requires hard work, grit, and perseverance day by day. It is not a role in which one can procrastinate or duck away. But through delivering client success day in day out, our Associates learn firsthand how the client frontline works and how the extra mile delivers commercial success and financial rewards. And this sets them apart from their peers and accelerates their careers both at AlphaSights and beyond. Fundamentally, we exist to deliver success to our clients, and to power career advancement for our people. Our track record shows that when we deliver along these dimensions, company success follows. - The AlphaSights Team
