Pros

Good Work/Life Balance: Good Time Off

Cons

Lots of quiet large lay offs; constantly changing executive management plans; executives constantly providing promotional opportunities for themselves; lack of promotional opportunities or opportunities to move around the company laterally; lots of dead end departmental positions; executive management has no interest in knowing the real talent within all levels of the company and making sure they are in the right position rather than just performing lay offs; good salaries going in but lack of performance based increases (lots of "you performed exceptionally well this year but no one, but the executives, are getting raises this year".

Worked at AIG for 4 years and it felt like 10 years.

Pros

AIG giant insurance company, they provide training to employees and the benefits are decent.

Cons

You're doing the job of 3 people at the same time - fast paced, high stress. The yearly reviews are based on a 1 through 5 scale (1 being the best, ready for promotion / 5 you are out the door) - you can be doing a great job but if your manager doesn't speak up for you, at best you will receive a rating of a 3 or 4 and with that said you might get a bonus; there are no salary increases unless you get a 1.

If hell on earth existed, it would be at AIG.

Pros

Honestly, the only pro that comes to mind are the benefits.

Cons

I worked at AIG for nearly five years. The environment was toxic and competitive to a pernicious level (likely a key reason for the company's crisis, through which I lived). Pay was not at all competitive and co-workers, with a few rare exceptions, are unmotivated and non-collegial. And keep in mind that I'm writing this as someone who received consistently excellent reviews and was promoted multiple times. Look for a better employer than this. They ARE out there!!!
