Pros

If you achieve your quota there is an opportunity to advance. It is a great place to begin a career (SBS). It looks great and is highly respected on your resume.

Cons

There are two important refferal channels. One is banks and the other is CPA's. If relationships are not already established it will be difficult to succeed as a new rep. In reference to CPA's I don't understand why there is not a more adaquate program in place to build a refferal channel with them. There needs to be more actions and money spent on this channel not just "big talk" from management about how great they are and how to get refferals. More money needs to be allocated and reps need to have programs in place most importantly in reference to CPA's because as a new rep your so concerned about your number you don't always have the time to focus as much on them as you would like and with little direction that focus is usually placed on the backburner. Overall, not an easy job at all when it comes to prospecting very petty and not as proffesional as it is made out to be. It is a glorified entry-level sales position.

Pros

They paid me well and gave me a company car. I was promoted 5x in 4 years. My manager was understanding of the work life balance. Many of the other managers were not.

Cons

Kool-ade factory. Some folks thought selling payroll was the most important thing in life. We had to do a lot of pep rallies that included stand ovations for people who sold a lot of payroll but otherwise didnt deserve it.

Pros

The difference between divisions is staggering. Small Business Services is a great place to get your initial sales experience, learn to sell and make some money, but it's heavily micro-managed, intense and unsustainable as a long-term career (for most, especially if you're not able to develop strong referral relationships.) Major accounts has the support and tools you need to sell value and great opportunities for making a lot of money. ADP adapts to the marketplace (albeit sometimes a little slowly) so you can meet client needs.

Cons

Trending a little towards mico-management since the recession. Many of the DVP roles are filled by executives from SBS who have a "matrix-mentality." Love tracking. Not all bad, but can interfere with selling time. Your experience can really vary by region and depend on the manager you work for.
