Interview
I interviewed for the Android Intern position, and it was pretty straightforward. I was always kept in the loop and knew what was going on and what stage I was in at all times. The process took just two weeks which was really nice compared to other companies that takes months to get to the next stage of interviews. It consisted of a 30 minute recruiter screening, to see experience and fit. Then a take home assessment to be completed over the weekend which was to create an app that was a fair challenge. Lastly, in the final round they asked to implement some features in the app, and a couple behavioral questions. Overall, really pleasant experience
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Hinge in Apr 2025
Interview
1. Initial call with the recruiter - general cultural/experience questions (ex: why Hinge?, Tell me about a time ..., etc.)
2. Hiring manager screen - digging deeper into background and technical skills. Similar to recruiter call, but more detailed an related to IC contributions/technical experience.
3. Take home assignment.
4. Pair programming - adding to take home, additional technical questions and discussion.
5. Cultural - similar to first and second interviews, but more focused on how you align with the company's principle and values.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- How would someone on your previous team or maybe your previous manager describe you as an engineer?
- Can you share a specific time when you have to guide a junior engineer through a complex problem while balancing your own workload?

Interview
Technical interview centered around a simple take-home assignment, creating a basic Android application, and then iterating on that app in subsequent interviews. There were a few other non-technical interviews as well, which were situational and behavioral discussions.
