I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at CarMax (Sterling, VA) in Sep 2013
Interview
I applied online 3 days later I received a call for a phone interview 4 days later. Phone interview took 15 minutes. She asked 5 general interview questions like what would you do in this situation. Describe an obstacle / task with a team you overcame and a plan of action. Etc. after that got asked for a person interview a couple days later. I showed up on time waited an hour before getting seen. Then got asked to fill out an online background check questionnaire that took 15 minutes. This background check will ask you every job you have ever held and if you left any out on your résumé. If you stole anything and or use drugs. Mainly asking if you stole and do drugs. After that was completed waited another 10 minutes got seen by a manager not in my line of work and got asked the same exact questions on the back ground check and the SAME question on the phone interview.
Then was told they will let me know an answer for a follow up interview in 72 hrs. Reviewed an email 2 days later stating my background check came out clean but didn't get the job. Unfortunately I believe this is a bad way to choose someone to work for you based on background check the and the same exact questions being asked repetivily. I'm ex military and hold a clearance. No hard feelings. Interviewers were really friendly and polite and easy to talk to.
I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at CarMax (Columbus, OH) in Jan 2013
Interview
Filled out an extensive online application, then received a phone call from a manager at my local CarMax location a day or two later. Went in for an interview which turned out to be several parts, with several different store managers. Spent quite a bit of time waiting between interview stages. Interview consisted primarily of questions concerning my honesty and integrity, as well as examples of how I went beyond my job description in the past. Interview concluded with a role play where I pretended to try to sell a car to one of the managers. Was offered the job the next day.

Question 1
"When someone is speaking to you, do you listen, or wait to speak?"
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at CarMax in Aug 2013
Interview
Applied online, got a follow up email 2 days later asking me to fill out a secondary interview. I scheduled a quick phone interview. Write down the questions the recruiter asks you. They are word-for-word the exact question your interviewer will ask you. After the phone interview you will be scheduled for an on site interview. This interview is for no reason way too long. 4 and a half hours. You show up and take a questioner, asking if your ever stolen or done drugs- of course you answer no. Then you wait. A manager pulls you into his office and asks you the same questions you just answered on the computer. Then you wait. Then you interview with 2 mangers. They ask you the same questions the phone interviewer asked you. Then you wait. Then they set you up with a SAT style aptitude test. Then the hiring manager gives you a cup and you literally take an on site drug test. You go on your marry way. I got an offer a little while later, but declined.
I got the appearance that CarMax is a cool low key place to work, but while I was in the office I saw the schedules for some of the buyers, One saturday off a month - never a Sunday. That did not turn me on. Let's be real, for a 35,000-40,000 / year job. I want alternating full weekend off. Also, I didn't really see a career in the company organization. There can be 10 buyers but only one senior buyer. Looks to me like you'll never getpromoted with those odds. I chose to look else where for employment
