I applied through college or university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Bain & Company (Boston, MA) in Feb 2010
Interview
Bain conducts case interviews as is the case with many management consulting firms. My experience was through on campus recruiting at Harvard Business School during the dedicated interview period for first year summer internships. The process was very fast with first round interviews, second round and offers all happening within one week. For first round, I had two case interviews with senior managers from the Boston office. For second rounds, I had 3 interviews, 2 cases with a partner and a senior manager, and 1 behavioral/fit interview with a senior partner. After this second round the senior partner called to give me my offer. The interviewers were all very friendly and professional.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
All of the interviews are challenging because they are real-life business cases that the interviewer must work through. One of the more challenging ones involved some data in the software industry. It included a bubble chart with three dimensions of data - y-axis, x-axis and bubble size. There was a lot going on in the industry and the case involved synthesizing all of the information/trends and providing strategy recommendations for the client.
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Bain & Company (San Francisco, CA) in Sep 2025
Interview
I applied in early to mid July 2025 and received the invitation to the first round interview in mid September. The process was two rounds. The first round was a 1-hour interview with two back to back 30 minute case interviews. The second round was a longer 2 hour interview with a mix of behavorials as well as harder case studies. I got denied after the first round.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They gave me two case studies. One was a basic profitability case and the other was a market entry case.
The set up was two case interviews, no behavioral component. They did not ask any personal questions and the cases were back to back. Mine was virtual and over zoom.
There are 2 Rounds of interviews:
1 Round: 2* 40-minute case interview with an associate consultant
2 Round: 3 case interviews with one focusing more on fit/behavioral interview with partners or managing directors
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Case interviews are more about profitability and market-entry and market sizing
