I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at B&Q (Huddersfield, Angleterre) in May 2016
Interview
A relaxed simple phone interview and then a slightly more formal interview in person about four days later. Both were one on one with friendly staff and felt very laid back

Interview questions [5]
Question 1
Discuss a time where you have given advice in order to help someone reach a goal?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at B&Q (Birmingham, Angleterre) in Apr 2016
Interview
1) Online App >
2) (week later) Telephone Interview >
3) (week later from the TI) Assessment Centre (Presentation, Teamwork Exercise and then a trip to the shopfloor/ 1:1 interview)
It's a quite quick turn around - about 3 weeks from applying (I applied Apr 8, TI was on 15th and then the Assessment/ Interview was Thurs 21st - I got a call the following afternoon saying they'd like to offer us a contract - I started induction a week later on the 29th).
1) So the Online App is your CV and Competency questions (what would you do in this situation?)
2) The Telephone Interview is basically an invite - you get an e-mail response back saying can you contact us with a time you're willing to do an telephone interview). I was offered a 1/4 slots from two days (Fri Morning/ Fri Afternoon, Mon Morning or Mon Afternoon).
3) If you get through that you get an e-mail saying we'd like to invite you to the store for the Assessment centre (it's a trip to the store you applied for).
Dresswear for the assessment is smart casual - so that's closed top shoes (more relevant to ladies really who may have open top ones), wear a shirt/ jumper, I wore black shoes, dark navy chinos and white shirt/tie.
i) The Presentation is basically - you pick one item from a desk (it's first come, first serve), you get five minutes to prepare and then you talk about it to your fellow interviewees and the staff.
* Pro tip: Go first. It shows you're not scared to go for it - can do attitude!
ii) After the presentation you get split into two groups and you basically build a tower from sheets of paper - it's to see your team work/ rapport.
* Pro tip: get involved! Encourage your team mates ideas!
iii) Finally is the showroom walk
Whilst waiting in the staff room a member staff will call the interviewees one at a time and you basically get taken round the store - you have to pretend your a staff member
*Pro tip: a friend of ours had this and your not expected to know anything really - just be willing to approach customer, "is everything all right there?" "morning maam, how can I help?"
I was pulled aside just before the showroom walk for a one on one interview for a different role - in the showroom which I managed to get! :D - It was a 1:1 interview with the line manager.
I had to answer - "tell me about yourself..." "tell me your work experience..." "can you handle pressure." "how are you with computers"
Always give examples to back up your claims - don't just say I love DIY, I'm good with computers etc...
The staff were all friendly - same with the one on one interview - they've been in your position before so good luck.
Presentation
"Often times with certain DIY projects, you may not have a socket in your immediate vicinity... That's where this comes in. In my hands we have an Extension lead..."
"Working in the gardens a dirty job, but there's nothing more satisfying than getting your own hands dirty - that said with DIY safety is paramount, that's why we've these safety gloves..."
