      Positioning for IPO for years at the expense of business and employees

      Pros

      Most of the workforce does a good job and care about company. The pay is decent. Good equipment and working conditions.

      Cons

      The leadership in the Western Region has taken out most of the managers who had branch responsibility and replaced them with new hires from outside the industry.diluting the knowledge base. Because of the changes made for a hoped for IPO, moral has been down for quite a while, as employees do not know what to expect next. What was once a thriving, proud company to work for , has been diminished by personal agendas, and upper management losing focus on quality employees and customer service.

      Pros

      Good people and a good orginization to work. The leadership put in place a few years ago is taking us the right direction and are accessible to any employee at any level. It is not too uncommon to receive a personal email from a VP or the CEO. The leadership continues to make heavy financial investments in the sales team and our general technology platforms.

      Cons

      1) At times some of our metrics force us into busy work instead of effective work. 2) Account Managers and Sales Managers spend too much time mining or suppling data to various personnel within Univar that should be capable of finding it themselves. Both points are addressed in greater detail under Advice to Management.

      Sales driven division with silo paranoia

      Pros

      The people in the trenches like customer service and warehouse employees are good hard working folks and do very well with little direction and development.

      Cons

      Univar environmental sciences division has no leadership except salesman. No collaboration between divisions and no operations executive strategy or let alone leadership does not exist. Just do- don't think of new ways mentality exist here. "We been doing things the same way for years"...no metrics and no control of costs.. Very reactive with no process improvement methodologies. Leaders are just worried about lookng bad.
