Pros

There are reasonable benefits like 401k match, insurance, etc. The company has tried to make the environment more lax over time (i.e. moved to PTO plan and casual in the office). They have some events to treat employees every so often.

Cons

That being said, the environment is rigid and strict (speaking from corporate office experience). PTO balance is relatively low compared to most companies nowadays. There is no work from home unless you have a manager who is okay with it. More than likely not. Many managers have limited people management experience, so there’s micromanagement and office politics (i.e. being thrown under the bus for others mistakes or lack of competency). There are some good people who mean well, but there are a lot of people who aren’t fit for the roles they occupy. You will find that managers have preferences and simply put others on PIP’s to chase them out over time. There aren’t many good food options near the Downer’s Grove office and the cafeterias in the complex they’re in are terrible. Upper management is also not very transparent about the company’s direction, there’s a lot of secrecy at the various levels of management on many things. Generally, the culture doesn’t emphasize a lot of respect between coworkers, so unless you have a thick skin this isn’t a positive environment.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience with us. We know that creating a new culture and work environment takes time and we appreciate the insights that current and former employees share as we work to shape a place where the best want to work. Our leaders are actively making improvements to our office environments, including a complete remodel of our Downers Grove headquarters, as well as developing new leadership training opportunities for managers. These are just some examples of the culture we are building where people matter.

Pros

-Good experience for entry-level or temporary contract -You can get exposure to a lot of different areas if you put in the effort -It's a very interesting industry if you're interested in science and chemistry -Sometimes they'll take out employees for lunch or coffee, but they stopped doing that after budget was tightened

Cons

-Very unsafe, unfriendly, and toxic environment -Unsafe environment for females because male-dominated company -Lots of firings, unexpected let-gos, people quitting, replacing full time employees with temps, people disappearing and no real reasons are given -"No reference policy": if they give a reference letter, it will only have your original job description from when you started (no special projects or extra duties you took on), it's very difficult to get any kind of reference from management even if they admit your work was good -Management does not try to make professional relationships with employees

Pros

-Weekends are yours -Company vehicle perk

Cons

-Not adapting to new economic climate, creating ongoing loss of business. Very difficult to achieve any sales success with the Univar platform. -Managment seems to be a bunch of sociopaths. As they continue to miss targets, they push unrealistic expectations onto the people below them. -Issues never seem to be resolved, just swept under the rug. -Terrible morale, but everybody smiles for the camera. -They are good at keeping you constantly scared for keeping your job.
