The Navy was a great stepping stone for me. Prior to the Navy, I was working dead-end jobs after highschool. When i joined the Navy, I learned new skills in the IT field that transitioned extremely well when i separated.

Cons

There are a ton of people that are disgruntled and try to bring you down with them. Don't get me wrong, it will suck at time just like any job.. But you can't let that control your life, just make the most out of it and things will play out in your favor.

Traveled the world: Iceland, France, Spain, Montenegro, Bahrain, U.A.E. Best coffee breaks on the planet: Missile launches, 5" gun, SWIS, 50 cal. shoots! Free Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner included. Snacks are not. Professional Development: Lots of on-the-job training and advancement opportunities. Free Education: Get paid to go to the best universities in the country! They want your money and your parents don't have to go to prison to get it.

Cons

Work-Life Balance: If you love your spouse, don't...just don't. Unless your marriage is solid, your spouse is OK not seeing you for months at time (and you them), and they are deeply committed to supporting your commitment. We came out stronger, many don't. Other than that, it there is nothing but opportunity and adventure...as long as you don't get stupid or whiney.
