Pros

Finally after all those years of any “us” and “them” you get to be “them” and do right by the guys. There’s so much you’re empowered to do with the COB and CO in your pocket… it’s the top job at sea for an enlisted nuclear rate. I enjoyed what there was to enjoy in the job at the time.

Cons

If you have a COB and CO who are inflexible or has your projects turn into a “find the smoothest rock” contest… it can be frustrating. The amount you have to do can be likened to trying to drink the ocean with a spoon… but if you surround yourself with the right talent you’ll survive everyday and occasionally thrive. Now that the job is done, I’d never want to do it again.

Pros

Free healthcare and free college when you get out. The VA loan is also amazing. It also teaches you how to deal with hard times and come out on top.

Cons

Terrible work conditions with low pay. Medical for service members is sub 3rd world in some places, getting help could take months or even years. You'll move to bad areas and have to either drive an hour to and from work or embrace the suck and add extra locks to your door.

Pros

In the Navy, you will learn the leadership, management, and necessary skills to make yourself marketable when you retire or choose to get out. I make over six figures in the Navy (before taxes) and will now be making 140k (before taxes) becuase of my experience in the Navy. Yes, I am an officer, but that was not put on my civilian resume. Alot of those civilian companies wont know the different between officer and enlisted anyways. It's all about how you sell yourself and present yourself in person. I know retired E6s making six figures.

Cons

Terrible work/life balance. Terrible mental health care and resources. Mission will always come first. High suicide rate. Lots of leadership in the military, but not many who lead from the heart and truly care.
