Pros

Pride of service. Very diverse workforce. Extensive career opportunities. Although some corporate thinking is still outdated, there's enough fresh ideas and younger people to influence change. Retirement benefits are second to none. in an age where most companies are cutting 401(K) contributions, the Navy (and all other brances) still offer a penzion after only 20 years of active duty service.

Cons

Politics. Static corporate ladder. Rigid thinking. The biggest downside is time spent away from family and friends, often for months at a time. If you have a supportive family, the benefits are extensive.

Pros

A good place to start in bad economy. You have job security and are always progressing and the pay ain't bad either. There are many training and leadership opportunities so when your hitch is done you are definitely marketable. If you kie the ocean then this is your job as all duty stations are on the beach.

Cons

If you dislike your job you have to tough it out but jobs change every year.

Pros

The Navy is a great place to grow yourself, especially if you are aware that you need some work to be competitive in college or in the workforce. If you are motivated to improve yourself, you will have all the support you need.

Cons

Obviously when you join the military you give up many rights and freedoms you have always taken for granted. Make sure you understand this before you join, and be honest with yourself when deciding whether or not you can handle this sacrifice.
