Pros

Unprecedented accesses and learning opportunities at even the lowest levels. A wealth of experience available from people who have worked with the Air Force and in government contracting for generations. Benefits that no civilian position will provide without question -- housing, food, healthcare, and education are all guaranteed.

Cons

Unprecedented levels of bureaucracy. Expect for many people to commit to useless operational changes, programs, and briefings in order to pad out their performance reviews. Expect for your initial training to poorly reflect or not to reflect the actual operational environment, team structure, or systems that you will use. You are at the whims of a completely different legal system, and you will be expected to turn on a dime if ordered, regardless of your living circumstances. Be stingy and be prepared for anything. Expect the materials you work with to be obstinate or dysfunctional -- particularly the computers.

Pros

Educational benefits has to be the best reason to join.

Cons

The fact that you will be in the web of American politics essentially one if it’s manpower puppets doing all kinds of clean or dirty work.

Pros

An experience like no other, definitely. Opportunity for tremendous personal, professional, and educational growth. Mentally stimulating and challenging.

Cons

Extremely difficult. Not for the faint of heart. Expect long, difficult hours and demanding work in a high-stress environment. Not a decision to take lightly. Consult other linguists to understand the job before joining. You can find them on forums online or maybe through your recruiter if you don't know any in your area.
