Good Pay. Poor & Inexperienced Management. Can Push Drivers Too Far Sometimes.
Pros
- Good pay - There evidently are better-paid HGV Class 1 positions available, but for your average Class 1 role pay was good. 15PH first 8.5 Hours after which time and a half pay PH. - Canteen is very fairly priced, the ladies are always very kind and happy to serve you, food is good and varied.
Cons
- I've seen first-hand how management use drivers as scapegoats. - Transport clerks are poorly trained in Transport. I've heard their salaries are quite low so they might be happy with what talent they can find on their budget. - Transport office rarely show empathy towards drivers. Even if you're the exception, always on-time for your shift, have no accidents, you're still put in the same basket with all the bad eggs in their eyes. Unfortunately. - Relatively no professional opportunities as a HGV driver. There are some openings occasionally for Driver Trainers or Assessors, however, it's awarded on a length of employment basis. If you've been with them for under 4 years don't expect any opportunities. - Tesco strictly adheres to policy - That's all that matters to them. Have your PPE on at all times - HI-VIZ zipped up! If you die on the job and your HI-Viz isn't zipped up - they use it to put the blame on you! It's all in their policy. - The Union works for Tesco - Not you. It's just paid for by you.
