I like Tableau, not my department

Pros

I believe in what the product is. Tableau is a beautiful product and I am constantly amazed at what people come up with. I work with very intelligent people. I have a solid work/life balance. Benefits are top notch. RSUs exist, but anemia has set in. believe we are meant to do great things.

Cons

My specific department is bad. underpaid and underappreciated. The only time we have any power is if we have an offer to leave. Otherwise it doesn't matter. You wonder why attrition is so bad when the #1 complaint is compensation? Imagine that. Growth of the company means that the leadership hierarchy gets more and more flat every day. With this growth, I've found that our cultural values have decreased

Almost great company, doesn't care about retention or growth

Pros

great culture, fun and intelligent colleagues to work with, great product and work environment

Cons

non-US employees are 2nd class to US employees. 0 progression for non-US employees and offered less to no opportunities. Almost my whole team has left for positions that pay close to double, or more senior roles externally than options we applied for internally (but were rejected and not even given an opportunity). It's sad that external companies we've never worked with are more willing to reward and recognize me and my ex-team-mates than Tableau. This was more about never being recognized for our potential and capabilities than Tableau paying lesser. There USED to be a flat hierarchy but these days you can give detailed feedback for years and still nothing has changed. My advice to anyone leaving Tableau: don't bother with exit interviews. Nothing will change.

Pros

Laid back atmosphere, great vision from high-level management, everyone believes in the product, great benefits, and amazing offices

Cons

Pay is catching up to market, but it's more of "fairly competitive for the industry" as opposed to an industry leader
