SolidWorks RIP

Pros

Nice slow, undemanding pace. Since the company technically does not exist anymore (SolidWorks is now a brand of Dassault Systemes) we can operate quietly and undisturbed. We still benefit from the brand created by the founders and previous management so we continue to leverage all that success for now. Beautiful campus and excellent view especially compared to the WW Headquarters, which is a bit embarrassing.

Cons

Unless you are based in the Velizy France office there is little opportunity for growth or REAL decision making power. But the good news is that they are so busy with inner-disputes that they tend to leave us alone.

Pros

-Great camaraderie among SolidWorks employees. Lots of very smart people with a positive, ‘can do’ attitude. -Very strong core product line. -Highly profitable. -Never had a round of lay-offs in the company’s ~20 year history unlike some competitors. The parent company, Dassault Systemes’, has a philosophy of not laying off in tough times, but rather carefully watching expenses and reinvesting for the future.

Cons

-SolidWorks has always run very lean, so sometimes it feels we have insufficient staff in certain areas, but see comment above about not having lay-offs. -Closer ties to the parent company mean that decision-making tends to happen at a slower pace than was the case previously, as more people are involved in the process.

Great company if you can deal with a fast pace and changing culture

Pros

The company is making money even through the recession. That says a lot about a company's position in the market, customer loyalty and employee's drive to produce results. It's a friendly work environment with mostly well intentioned people.

Cons

Management regularly runs departments understaffed making workloads and demands very high. The perks offered by SolidWorks are disappearing one by one now that Dassault Systèmes is running all of the brands as one.
