Pros

- Compensation in Fort McMurray is pretty good in general. So on absolute terms, good compensation (overpaid some would argue) but on relative terms nothing special compared to the local major competitors. - Good benefit plans for sure. - In the good times, there are opportunities to move globally within the parent company but that has died down unfortunately due to the economic circumstances. - The company boasts about its training programs - some people really like it. I found them interesting even though they weren't really suited for my actual job. - And a bit of a double–edged sword, in the good times, you can make very good money (specially as a contractor) because the management is clueless about where, how or why the money is spent there.

Cons

- Management at Albian Sands is very poor. While I never directly dealt with senior level management, I was very disappointed with the mid-tier management. - The workplace used to be a friendly, challenging and healthy environment but that has degraded significantly over the past two years. Some departments have become very toxic. - The organization has become very top-down. Fear of disagreeing with your superior is present throughout the whole organization. You are expected to blindly follow orders and critical thinking is discouraged. - Management has become very disconnected from employees. Every form of bottom-up communication has become too formalized. - Very little room for innovative and challenging work - you’re expected to follow orders - no more or less. - Empty buzz words and phrases being thrown around every where and every day to the point that it actually insults the intelligence of employees. - From the day I started to the day I left, management seemed to be hashing out the roles and responsibilities... - Their employee evaluation system is very ancient and flawed. It does nothing but demoralize the employees in my opinion.

Pros

huge company well-used to making money too easily. Massive global presence gives it clout.

Cons

Now struggling to come to terms with international downturn and internal bureaucracy. Staff are complacent and management slow to react. European team is horribly clique-ridden - not nice if you aren't one of the in-crowd.

Pros

Talented coworkers. Salary and benefits are decent. Training is available when needed. CEO is good and Canadian. International company if want to work overseas.

Cons

Relationship based company. How you are ranked is based upon who you know. Too much management. Recent layoffs did not eliminate any management just employees doing the work. The way employees are treated during the layoffs is poor and mor process is fake. Constant organizational change and not sure why is needed.
