Pros

Prestige of working for a well-respected company and the opportunity to gain professional business contacts and industry knowledge.

Cons

Little upward mobility and opportunities to grow into and/or learn about other facets/departments of the company. Senior leadership could do a better job of recognizing good work, especially concerning lauding newer, younger, but exceptional, talent over tenured employees who have performed at meets expectations over time.

Pros

Good experience for novice engineers. If you recently graduated from University, then you have good opportunities to get the experience with real industry problems and challenges. Your area of expertise can grow quite fast and you can understand the basic principles about research management. The foreign employers are usually supported with housing, and the taxes in South Korea are reasonable. The Samsung is a famous brand, so usually, the experience in Samsung allows to find better job easier, and can be a good step to find a good position in different company.

Cons

Once you got your area of expertise, which is needed for your job (~1 year), the further knowledge growth is quite limited. It's hard to know the working environment because of language barriers. Lots of politics in relations (maybe the same for all big companies).

Pros

Good chance to study Asian culture. Low taxes and social payments in Korea. Good benefits (including free healthcare and housing). Probably good for unexperienced engineers as a start, as the compensation and benefits are reasonable and often no special experience is required. Even though Samsung is very Asian company (see downsides), they are trying hard to acquire western corporate culture, so the situation will, probably, become better. If you endure Samsung, all other companies are piece-a-cake.

Cons

Even though English is official company language, the ability of significant portion of employees to speak it is close to nothing. Do not expect your colleagues to share information with you, unless they have no other options. There is no chance for non-Korean to become a project leader (except for the case when you are hired as one). Head of your group may expect you to work overtime even if there is nothing to do, just to show your loyalty to the company. Difference in salary (at the same position) depending on the nationality. You may have a meeting to discuss problem of work and life balance. Starting at 8 pm. Really.
