Pros

Most employees are professional who tend to have a good work-life balance.

Cons

"who knows you" matters. Diversity cited as a reason for promotions that appear arbitrary. No accountability for decisions that affect the long term as management is too focussed on the short term.

Pros

International exposure is bar none; the training is excellent; and the calibre of people you meet is never failed to amaze me.

Cons

Brutal hours and the type of work is often random and sporadic. As a junior, it is very dependent on the quality of the manager since he can make or mar your time there. This is more than evident since a high-flyer will take you along and teach you a lot and a sedentary mule is going to make you insane with boredom. Lack of choice on progression of juniors - you have to put your time in at each level and no real performance evaluation benefits; global locations can include undesirable ones

Pros

The Job Opportunities and Challenges presented are tremendous. They have a good benefits package for their employees too, which is incentive enough to work for the organization.

Cons

In one word .. Middle Management. The mid management team comprises mostly of people who have considerable engineering experience with the company. On the other hand, they lack the basic management and team building skills that are essential for the organization to grow. Schlumberger's training program, although robust, fails to account for training these "engineers" as managers.
