      Large company, Good benefits, Lousy management

      Pros

      Large company with a lot of different positions to apply for. Decent benefits and a well known, respected company.

      Cons

      Large company with a lot of politics. Must get in good with your manager to get promotions or other opportunities. STAY AWAY from SIS (Schlumberger Information Solutions) unless you are a programmer. They will lock you into a job and refuse to let you transfer even if you quit.

      A good company if you're all about the money...be prepared to alienate those close to you

      Pros

      The salary is pretty impressive if you have just finished at university. The company provides great opportunities for those willing to work hard and especially to those on International Mobile contracts. The work environment is diverse and you will meet people from all across the world. Company provides excellent benefits including healthcare, dental, profit sharing and stock purchase options. Regular training is provided through courses as well as on the job training in the field; work is pretty diverse and challenging. Overall a good company for single young people looking to start their careers in the oil and gas industry.

      Cons

      If you work for Schlumberger you need to be prepared to have no life at all (forget about your family)...Schlumberger is your life period!!! Locations vary in terms of management and facilities. If the management likes you then you will have no problems, otherwise have your bags packed. The company looks very good on paper, but most of the people in the field complain endlessly about the conditions they have to work in. Management do not understand the conditions that the field personnel work in and seem to brush aside the real issues, focusing only on meeting their objectives for the year.

      Schlumberger - What's good and what's not.

      Pros

      If you work hard, you have many opportunities ahead of you in the company. The other employees are excellent as well, almost like an extended family. Have developed many close friendships - unfortunately the company is quite mobile, so those friendships turn into long distance, however more people come in and you develop additional friendships.

      Cons

      Sometimes too much is expected of the employees, results are expected to be at expoenential growth year on year. The company has a mindset that is really "who is at fault" even though the culture is taught to be "no fault". Every step you take it seems you are being watched and will effect your future opportunities - very political.
