Pros

Good benefits, good work life balance

Cons

Work is boring. Nothing to learn after 6 month. No respect to engineers. People get into groups and attack each other. People get promoted based on who they know. Smart engineers are leaving. Meaningless meetings. There are managers doing all the design themselves and tell engineers get the things done and ask no question. Then they can use that pathetic information to exchange with other managers in those endless meetings and and gain "visibility" and quick promotions. Benefits and work life balance is good and you think above is not a problem. But it's the problem.

Pros

Paycheck, they have a health clinic, swimming pool, free coffee

Cons

HR is Management's back pocket, management gets away with anything and not realize they can ruin your personal and professional life with any lie. Told things such as "sacrifice your career as a mother", "hard work will not take you anywhere", "there is no potential for anyone to advance in this department", etc...careers and people's lives shredded with corporate corruption. They might promote you if you behave just right.

Pros

Some awesome engineers around. If they don't see you as a threat, you will get to learn a thing or two. Decent perks.

Cons

Rampant nepotism. Managers hiring 'loyal' people from their previous orgs, their boss's/peer's wives, and they all live in a happily ever after, where they scratch each other's backs. If the San Diego overlords are happy(or you can make it look like you are doing good), you can get away with anything. Even if the entire team report who reports to you, complaints to upper management, they will not do anything because, end of day its all about business. There is no thing as ethics, decent behavior or even decent language. You will be punished for not being complacent, threatened for asking questions. Have personally witnessed employees tortures and pushed into depression because they could not get along with the middle management.
