Pros

A steady job. Good training including sending you to Rochester, New York, their corporate office, when necessary. Great team work with peers. Good pay and fair raises.

Cons

Politics got in the way of promotions. A handful of big wigs monitor the entire promotion process. It's who you know not what you know that counts. If a supervisor is liked they will be promoted even if they are abusive to employees. If they don't like you they will find a way to block promotions or transfers. I watched while a coworker was abused, literally, until they quit (I thought the employee was a pretty nice person). I also noticed that when the annual "top 100 companies to work for" award time came around they sent out emails to all employees asking what they liked about Paychex. If you gave them a less than perfect score then you weren't included in the process. Hmmm....pretty deceptive!! They like meek, no questions asked, types of employees. Those types seem to do well.

Not bad for a first job

Pros

They have great opportunities for training if you want to learn. Also, they encourage suggestions for process improvements. Their benefits are some of the best I have seen. The tuition reimbursement is helpful if you decide to use it.

Cons

They care more about how long you've been with the company than your performance or what you have to offer. I find it difficult to attempt to interview for different departments. The starting pay is below average for the industry (which is probably why their benefits are better).
