It all depends on the org you're in

Pros

Everything depends on what org you're in, and what city you're in. My org, we were part of an acquired company so the people are great, the legacy management is still fighting for us. But there is only so much they can do. We've got free drinks in the kitchen. Access to a lot of training materials if you can make sense of the system to find what you want. Great benefits.

Cons

NO RAISES, promotions without a pay increase, you need a team to fight for office outings and parties and fun if that's something you want. It's a self-serve tech company, so they expect you to solve your computer issues first, before calling IT, be prepared to struggle with getting your Outlook issues solved by reading an outdated internal web page, or by googling your issue on your own.

Oracle SSI

Pros

It's not Oracle, it is Oracle SSI for which I am writing my review. Oracle SSI is the EMEA consulting wing of Oracle which operates from Bangalore. Pros: ------ - Work from Home - Family work life balance - Open Culture, but most of the cases on paper only - You can survive in this company without doing any work for years - A big hierarchy in reporting which is not required for a consulting firm - Most of the managers are powerless, so if you are in good terms with senior managers, you will rock in this company.

Cons

- Salary hike rarely happens. Last time after 2 years with a budget of less than 6%. - Growth is limited. Already 200 + manager's and 20+ director and company total strength is approx 800. - No onsite allowance. You will be told that your limit is 30-40 usd, but you need to provide the bills. No bill no payment, so no eating at roadside or restaurant who don't give your bill. Even you can't claim tips / liquor on expenses. This will go out from your own pocket as tips is mandatory in most of the country. - Don't expect good accommodation when you travelling onsite for project. You might have to share an apartment with 2-3 other families / consultants. - You need to pay your kids travel visa, tickets, etc from your own pocket. Air ticket and visa application fee for spouse needs approval and the you have to pay the pre-requisite tax on these. - Once you at onsite or in project, you will be on mercy of your project manager. You will hardly get any positive response from your managers for any onsite related issues..

Pros

1. For those that can figure out how to "manipulate" the inflexible Oracle systems, you can make a lot of money if you have the right territory or territories. 2. For those that want to be lazy and collect a paycheck, come on in! The water's great. Easy place just to sit and never be fired. Suckers like me will take pity on you and help you through whatever you need because that's the way I am. 3. For those that love change, come aboard! The plan and strategy (lack thereof) changes every 3-6-9 months, leaving everyone trying to clean up and ride out what was approved only to have everything turned upside down. 4. If you did want to stay at Oracle and not for #1, there are potential opportunities outside of sales however, you will need attainment and awesome networking. You are just a number here, so thinking that you can apply internally and get preference is a horrible lie.

Cons

I've never worked at a Sales oriented company where I've had to fight with so many departments to get a deal done, only to then have provisioning screw everything up. I spend more than half my work day helping my reps fix Oracle created internal problems so the customers can actually receive the service they want or are paying for. Its embarrassing to win a sales cycle only to have Oracle screw it up so badly (internally) that the customer questions why they're going to trust their mission critical enterprise application to a company who can't get a technical question or something else answered in a week? Secondly, from an operations standpoint, SaaS/PaaS/IaaS need better resources. Asking a customer to wait 4-6 weeks after the customer buys to receive their environment, is unacceptable. Other Cloud Providers I've worked for do it in minutes if not hours. To add insult to injury, then provisioning screws up the order and when they're questioned, you get some snarky answer of: "These are complex deals". Clearly something is broken. If they're overworked, why should the customer suffer because Oracle can't hire people fast enough? Or, as its commonly known throughout the Sales Org, there are bugs in our provisioning software that do not get resolved in a timely manner. I'm not referring to a couple of weeks but rather months. This is months of this negatively impacting the customer.
