Pros

Good growth for performers, good brand name and value on the CV, chance to work on big, cutting edge products. flexible time, opportunity to move between groups. good benefits. the senior management tries to communicate things in a timely manner to the people but is not always successful in doing so.

Cons

big company - things move slowly, career growth can stagnate easily, not much value to people. salary is low and is not decided fairly. the management takes advantage of bad times to stop promotions and career growth of people, even though promotions are not linked to salary raises in oracle.

Pros

There is nothing quite like being on the inside. Access to uncensored bug and Service Request information, development sites and product development personnel, opportunities to participate in beta tests. Growth through acquisition means there are new potential areas to explore all the time, and what's best is that they come to you, and naturally are best of breed. Some of the brightest and hardest working people that I've ever come across work at Oracle.

Cons

It's a behemoth. There's a desk manual but each global centre tends to do things its own way. Everything is driven by statistics and we all know about lies, lies, and more statistics. Immediate management tend to be drawn from the workers themselves, and as such often don't get the respect that management deserves; they are also stuck between a rock and a hard place - the people they manage were once peers and friends, but now they have to do The Management Thing and that's not easy if it means reprimanding a buddy. And guess what ... the buddies know it. Oracle is also a place where the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Make some noise, get some attention. Don't expect to get recognised for your brilliance alone. Some of the thickest and laziest people that I've ever come across work at Oracle.

Pros

Oracle is an industry leader. Because of the company's huge existing license footprint, the access that you get to accounts is impressive. A lot of senior executives (from customers) will take the time to meet with you if you're from Oracle. The company pays fairly well. The power you can harness within the internal network is pretty remarkable. If you need someone who is an expert on some facet of enterprise software, there is probably someone you can track down internally if you work hard enough. Also, the caliber of the average Oracle employee is impressive. You will definitely encounter talented, aggressive people that can teach you something.

Cons

Oracle is a very rough environment to work in. The stress level is constantly high. There is not a real sense of being collegial. People are mostly very focused on their self-interests and they need to be in order to stay alive. There tend to be a lot of emergencies where a situation runs up and down the management chain. When this happens, life can be difficult. There is not much of a mentorship culture at Oracle. There are a lot of processes to follow, so it can be very difficult to get things done, even after you have learned the processes inside and out.
