Good company but no opportunities for growth

Pros

Novartis used to be the most stable of the large pharma companies to work for. Very ethical company with a strong pipeline.

Cons

Recently upper management ordered a significant downsizing. The company's multi billion dollar flagship drug is going generic in 2012. Novartis has implemented a hiring freeze for the past several years. Little chance of getting into company right now and little opportunities for promotion.

Pros

The large amount of every resource necessary to perform research. Everyone there seemed very helpful to promote productive work in completeing projects.

Cons

Somes there was a lack of continuity with managerment and line workers. Setting goals for the following year were sometimes cumbersome and there was a constant battle between line workers and management.

Pros

They hire at competitive salaries and the overall benefits package is sufficient. The costs are expensive compared to their peers, but they are still a worthwhile part of coming here.

Cons

Everyone is considered replaceable and expendible. There is a internal 'buddy' network in order to advance, and if you are not part of it, forget about moving on. This is one company that makes you feel that you are lucky to work for them, instead of having the sense that the company is lucky to have you.
