Think twice!

Pros

Your clinical skills will always be required everywhere in England so you'll never find it difficult to find a full time role which makes it easy to relocate in the future. So much opportunity to do overtime. Some degree of flexibility but only if you have a strong reasonable excuse.

Cons

Always short staffed and overworked. Pay freeze for 5 years, only now we will get a 1% increase, thanks! Too much bureaucracy and paperworks. Blame game with lack of support from upper management who lack insight and reality orientation. Public frustration vented towards staff.

Pros

To be honest the best thing about being a doctor in this country is that fact that one day you might get to leave to Australia or New Zealand

Cons

Over-worked (Don't let EWTD fool you), under-paid, under-appreciated. Toxicl culture, poor management.

Pros

Shared goal working with dedicated members of staff. Helping to support patients to gain treatment. Working with multidisciplinary and multinational team

Cons

New to management role with no prior NHS experience I was not provided the training and support needed but despite not having my role explained (I was a service manager with 5 other new members of staff each working in different depts and each role was very different but we all shared the same job description. I asked on numerous occasions for the job role to be explained to me but the closest explanation I received was I don't want scare you. Because of the constant changing government focus and targets, some senior managers displayed regular public bullying and humiliation tactics. This was recorded on my e it questionnaire to HR but most disturbingly no one contacted me to find out more. Shame because I think was a particularly bad experience and was keen to work within a hospital setting and feel with the right support I would have had valuable skills to give as well as developing my own skills further
