Pros

Lots of freedom - you are the master of your own career. You get full credit for your achievements (with a cost of taking full responsibility). Retains its "move fast" culture - you can get a lot of meaningful work done. Smart and proficient colleagues - you can learn a lot regardless of your level! Compensation is fair and sweet.

Cons

Forget about work/life balance. In fact, forget about work/sleep balance. Management does nothing to deal with the problem. Horrible working conditions. Wide and extremally noisy open spaces (impossible to concentrate), tiny desks, lines in restrooms, unavailable meeting rooms. I do most of my meaningful work from home. Management refuses to acknowledge the problem and praises facilities, so no chance of this being fixed. A strong political bias coming all the way from the top that pollutes working climate.

Money can't buy me love

Pros

You'll make a ton of money. The salary, stock, bonus, and perks are generous. If you only care about your resume and your bank account, this is the place for you. It's easy for anyone to be tempted by the zeros in an offer from Facebook, especially if you're young and you think life is all about money.

Cons

You might make a lot of money at Facebook, but it will come at a cost. Your health, your relationships, and your self-esteem will suffer. You'll wake up five years later, with a lot of money, but you'll hardly recognize the person in the mirror. The culture is unhealthy and it will change you for the worse.

I'm disheartened to hear this. We have many avenues for support especially if you are going through a tough time such as EAP services, internal support groups, Life@ team, and your HR Business Partner. We also have learning and development courses and coaching to help assess career strengths and passions. Whatever it may be, I urge you to seek support and focus on what brings you meaning. Please let us know how we can help.

We appreciate you taking the time to share. While we're disappointed to hear that this is your experience, we'll share this with our internal teams, so we can improve. We want to operate as a globally inclusive culture, and will continue striving to do so.
