Pros

The company as a whole has fun activities and events for associates to be a part of and they give away tickets, etc. which is a nice perk. The benefits are pretty good and I think it's good that Mars is a family owned business.

Cons

I feel like Mars isn't very innovative or "trend setting" with their products. Leadership within the company seems to be all over the place and getting ahead seems impossible unless you're a "favorite". I definitely feel like the workplace isn't gender neutral and it's more about personality than skill when it comes to promotions or even lateral moves. It's really about who you know and how much you're willing to suck up to everyone. There's also a high level of unprofessionalism that I've never experienced before. I've been shocked at the things I've seen and heard from upper management. Sometimes it feels as if I'm in high school again with the amount of unfair treatment and gossiping that I've witnessed (not directed towards me but about co-workers). I feel stuck and like there's no one to trust or turn to regarding these situations. It feels like Mars doesn't deal with problem individuals but instead, they just pass them on to another position or another department in order to not address the issues.

Pros

Pay is acceptable, benefits are wonderful. Free candy and dog food. Good prizes and food at company outings.

Cons

Certain managers threaten to fire almost the entire team on a daily basis, and constantly tell employees they are not good enough. The next minute they will ask you to come in early or work overtime in the same position they just said you are no good at... The atmosphere is so negative here, and no one can be trusted. There is much favoritism and raises/promotions are based on that. They have people called Ombudsman who are supposedly neutral contacts to help resolve issues - they are far from neutral and also far from helpful. They back Mars supervisors or managers each and every time they are contacted, with little to no regard for regular employees or the situations they have been backed into.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review to share your experience with us and provide feedback. Yours is not the experience we aim to offer our Associates. We deeply care for our Associates' wellbeing and development, and are dedicated to always improving. The Mars Ombudsman program operates independently, impartially, and confidentially. We would like to understand your experiences further and would like to encourage you to reach out to your local Associate Relations team. You can also reach the global Ombudsmen team under ombudsman@effem.com to be connected with another Ombudsperson from your market. We look forward to hearing from you.

Pros

Love hearing the positive news, even when the ship is sinking, so you walk away happy. Being a cult you are surrounded by an echo chamber, so you will be happy, irrespective of what's going on Fantastic brand recognition you never feel you are missing out on anything until you leave

Cons

1. You never feel you are missing out on anything until you leave. 2. Once you leave and it takes about a year before you realize how demented the organization is. The rest of the world has moved away in salaries, promotions, careers, and you find yourself repeating the 5 principles mantra. 3. Company is hemorrhaging money and losing people and yet, no talk about it. 4. No one wants to change anything. Leadership globally is made up of Western EU expats from a clique , and they don't want change, as they will lose their benefits. 5. Someone tell me how will an expat know how to do business in China? this is a company that has invested billions of dollars over 2 decades. Their Chinese employees tell them candy, desserts are not part of the food habits there! but why will an expat listen? they get paid overseas pay free school for kids, free housing. 6. All Non EU employees are there to fill the room with positive talk and the greatness of the 5 principles! Love it! 7. Speak with some ex Martians, and all will tell you its a cult and they realized it only a few months after leaving. 8. In all honesty I never leave reviews for a company, as why would I want change in a company I have left, let them stew. This is just to forewarn and people who are enthusiastic and tuned for change. Mars is not, so don't waste your time, energy, and enthusiasm.
