I was underpaid every single time, leading to a domino effect where at the end i’m probably owed £££’s. Initially, i thought i was going to be in a customer facing role - had orientated the interview around this and the sleezy interviewer encouraged the thinking behind this. He was later fired for money laundering. I was actually placed in a warehouse, treated like an object - made to unnecessarily wear heavy protective duty in boiling hot summer days, yet not allowed protective gloves despite handling razor sharp metal constantly.
Most of the people working there are genuinely disgustingly horrible people, whether retail has encouraged this or perhaps makro is a plughole for these types is up to debate, however if you dare to be outgoing, personable or even remotely sharing of opinions (even in non work related environments) - some nasty piece of work will have something to say. I cannot be more descriptive, but perhaps take this analogy, they would most likely ignore someone with no residual hope for life.
Conclusion, makro was a pitfall for me during my years at uni. The small group of people worth speaking to held almost no outlook to the future, repeatedly contrasted their qualifications against their current job role and considered most of their earnings to be simply ‘beer money’. If your looking for a job here then think twice, there are jobs you can do at any age, be paid triple the amount and feel valued.
