Pros

Supposedly good pay (easier ways to make more money however)

Cons

Told anything at interview to get you in, most of which are false promises. Expected to work (6 hours plus) without taking breaks entitled to by law, expected to sign out and work for free, called in on days off, called in early, expected to stay on 1,2,3 even four hours after end of shift ON A DAILY BASIS, painfully understaffed, hugely unrealistic and unreachable targets, never allowed to go home ill, EXPECTED TO WORK WITH SICKNESS AND DIARRHEA DESPITE HANDLING FOOD ALL DAY, absolutely no concern for staff well being. Spoken to like a piece of dirt by people (esp reg manager) on 6 times the salary you're on. Back braking work for no appreciation what so ever. Constant threat of disciplinarys for honest minor mistakes. No hope of progression due to lack of staff to manage in the first place. Very greedy conniving company out to exploit and hoard the profits made by such exploitation (prices low due to 'efficient' staff numbers, i.e forcing individuals to do the work of 3 people until they have a breakdown/ become institutionalized/ ect. I'd rather work at Auschwitz, at least there you had death to look forward to...

Pros

I’ve worked with some absolutely fantastic, enthusiastic and talented people over my years at Lidl. I’ve become friends with so many outside of work. I’ve been given opportunities at Lidl that I never would have been given otherwise. Compensation is great, benefits are good. Work life balance is great bc everything is so disorganized no one is doing work anymore. Not because they’re lazy but because there’s no leadership or clear strategy.

Cons

We’ve been through 3 layoffs in the past year. The majority of those affected by the layoffs last week were women and minorities. Their health insurance was canceled effective that day. Current CEO is completely out of touch and by far the worst of the 5 (?) we’ve had. When asked what his favorite Lidl location was (in a company-wide town hall) he said “the one closest to my house in the Hamptons” . SIR the majority of people at this company make ~$20 an hour. His walk up song is “American idiot” and he hasn’t been proved wrong. His “hand picked, A-team” VPs refuse to speak with anyone under a director level and they just fired most of the directors.

Pros

That I found another job. Like everyone I joined because of the money. Bad move!! If you abuse your power and treat people with contempt you won’t be questioned, you’ll be promoted. Like some other senior managers.

Cons

I was an one of a quick succession of Area Managers in the Northfleet region to get a job elsewhere after their behaviour. The previous long term Area Managers had personal / mental health issues. Instead of being helped they were bullied out their jobs- Good job and loyalty to employees HR and seniors!! HR are meant to be impartial but tell senior managers confidential information which gives them ammunition to bully the vulnerable. Health and Safety for staff is non existent- how Lidl never got fined or questioned by authorities during COVID is beyond me when a worker passed away and loads of staff caught it at once in a particular store. The conditions the staff had to work in was appalling. Work / Life balance non existent as well.
