Pros

It was a job, paid the bills for a while. Honestly the only positive thing I can say.

Cons

Bully-boy management style rife throughout the organisation, old school scaring and threatening of employees. Pass-the-buck Store Managers looking to find fault and blame for own shortcomings at every turn. Huge staff turnover, staff morale is on the floor. The worst experience of my 15 years working, by a mile. Laughable attempts to cover up the negative feedback from current and former employees as 'not being able for hard work' or 'you don't get paid for drinking coffee'. Regularly worked 60+ hours per week, still never enough. Awful, truly awful place to work. STAY AWAY

Pros

The company is going through a lot of changes to alter it's image and evolve. The actions they are taking put them in the right direction.

Cons

Everything is based on productivity. The employees are stretched until their breaking point. They are changing their image but still run on their hard discount practices.

Pros

There are zero pros. People may be attracted to the pay rates, however NO pay rate justifies a company to not treat someone like a human being.

Cons

There is a 'buddy' you are supposed to receive who will help you settle in. Furthermore training is promised. I believe this is just a pretense 'formality' which is put to make the company look good, as it doesn't actually happen in practice. No training but expected to know everything! I am NOT in anyway prejudice against people who's native isn't English working and becoming managers, I want to make that clear. However, when your Managers do not speak clear English which is good enough for the workplace, it makes carrying out instructions painful. I would have to ask several Managers and Deputies to REPEAT an instruction and still didn't get the full explanation. Then I would get aggravation for not doing the duty properly. The policy of LIDL that 'Hours On The Rota Will Not Be Adjusted Without Your Agreement'. ANYONE who works or has worked for LIDL know's this is the contrary. Not only that but the reason LIDL is SO CHEAP is partly due to the strain they put on staff. I am not afraid of hard work BUT what they expect is ridiculous. HEALTH & SAFETY. - In the store I used to work for, somebody lost an EYE because the method for the baler wasn't safe. So instead of revising that method, the manager 'showed' everyone how to use it and made everyone sign a form stating they had been trained and therefore the company were not liable to pay you compensation in the event you would have an accident. SO THE BALER STILL ISN'T SAFE. Also there were rats droppings in the store, and on two occasions it took over ten minutes (the second occasion was an HOUR) for glass in front of customers to be cleaned up. HALF AN HOUR BREAKS IN 10+ Hour shifts is NOT ENOUGH. Also I've seen the 11 Hour break between each shift violated whilst working there. Believe it or not I am not ranting for personal gain, but so people don't work there, which hopefully spurs LIDL to treat there employee's better in order to attract staff and keep them. Approx 4 people came and left while I was working there (I was only there four months). Also there was NO DAY TO DAY RUNNING OF THE SHOP - Everyday seemed to be making it up as they went along. Finally, people who work at LIDL NEVER KNOW WHEN THEY'RE SHIFT WILL FINISH. I used to work 14-22 a lot but actually finish at 23 or 0:00 in the morning. They tell you once you've signed the contract and on your first day that the time for hometime is basically an 'estimate' and normally the 'estimate' is wrong. So that puts a strain on going out and having fun because you don't know if you will be able to go out.. They didn't like me because I stood up to them when they tried to pressure me on overtime ON THE SHIFT or telling me I weren't good enough, I'd argue with them straight so they disliked me. Don't let no one push you around, especially people who are screwing you over!
