Pros

- Being owner-managed, it still has an entrepreneurial, innovative feel - If you position yourself well, you get to work on some very interesting projects

Cons

- promotions to senior levels tend to be based on a "tap on the shoulder", as opposed to an individual's qualification for the job - people tend to be seen as resources as opposed to humans - development of people after graduate level is poor - it's in Dartford - the culture is aggressive and rather cut-throat - which gets in the way of people actually being able to do a good job

Pros

Some of the best construction projects in the UK, attempting to innovate in the construction sector with offsite construction (DfMA) and BIM (Digital Engineering), age is not a barrier to promotion, ability to influence industry practices and work across construction disciplines, strong emphasis on safety.

Cons

As a privately owned business rather than public it creates some unusual cultural and business policies as well as opportunities such as investment in an innovation in the face of a financial loss. There is a strong belief that it is able to drive and self deliver in all areas which is not always the case. Construction projects are often long timescale endeavours and many of the cultural values of delivery teams are rooted in practices from past projects making change difficult.
