Business Outlook

Pros

As a young person who has worked closely with both “boots on the ground” and the O’Rourkes themselves the direction this business is going in is genuine. I am supported to do the right thing and make the best choices in difficult situations. This is something a lot of businesses are finding harder and harder to do in the current climate.

Cons

It is cultural to work long hours, although there is no critical expectation to do so. Laing O’Rourke works on a 12h door-to-door policy and is pushing for a 35 hour working week for all. It also has a leading equal parental leave policy. The construction culture in general can be demanding and male-dominated, but Laing O’Rourke is part of the force pushing for change.
