PD Graduate Scheme

Pros

A company that is well respected and at an interesting time for the automotive industry. Great training opportunities and opportunities to go on placements throughout the business. Respected as a graduate within the business.

Cons

Location, for younger people living in a quiet town such as Leamington Spa can be extremely frustrating. Traffic around site also means it is difficult to live in Birmingham due to the long commute. Not enough space so hot desking makes it difficult to sit with your team. Very pot luck on where you get placed, unfortunately I was placed in a team where I have no interest.

Pros

Cars as fringe benefit. Flexibility to rotate roles, broaden experience and position yourself for progression.

Cons

IT infrastructure out of control making hard work of interpreting HQ or global performance. Automotive sector precarious in recession. Land Rovers shockingly bad quality only overcome by enduring appeal of its products. Jaguar brand ignored internally and lost globally.

Pros

Good level of pay and general benefits Well regarded company

Cons

Ultimately my advice would be to apply for a specific job rather than this scheme as you have no control of where you end up. (at least in manufacturing) Confusing structure, graduate scheme not clearly set out, feels more like you're just put into a role and left there largely. Experience varies wildly dependent on where you end up Poor management of scheme in general, or at least that's my experience. Lack of proper formal training, just lots of single day courses covering fairly basic topics most graduates are well versed in. Variation in workload is massive again depending where you end up. Multi-site working and almost all have access and/or workspace constraints which is very annoying.
