Pros

Great perks and salary, and depending on the team you get to - smart co-workers and challenging technical work

Cons

No more than lip service for diversity initiatives. No viable career path for individual contributors. Women engineers that are not in management languish in the same level for years, and their contributions are not recognized or valued. If you are a female engineer, there are much better companies out there that will value you. Projects and teams randomly move around various engineering offices because they hire too many engineers without actually having a plan for what they would work on. Some engineering managers put on act of being humble while doing nothing to help advance the careers of those who report to them.

Pros

Perks - snacks, booze, happy hours, video games, ping pong Benefits - unlimited PTO, some teams can work from home

Cons

The product and company as a whole is scaling very quickly and not equipped to handle so much change at once. Internal communication is horrible, you can expect 3-4 emails daily about product changes that were probably rolled out weeks ago without any communication to the teams that actually work with clients directly. Different departments have conflicting goals so it's hard to work cross-functionally. Training varies greatly across departments as well. There’s a lot of emphasis on “career development” in Client Services but unless you want to do a basic customer support role forever, you really aren’t going to learn much or develop any new skills because the product itself is so simple. The career pathing “programs” they have to offer are mostly just basic trainings that don’t have anything to do with being more strategic at your job, or personality quizzes that are a complete waste of time. They also tend to promote people into newly created positions that are essentially the same role just a different title and not much more pay -- speaking of pay, Indeed does not negotiate salaries and has a confusing bonus structure. In Client Services, bonuses are essentially determined by your manager and they can be as biased as they want. Indeed tries to present itself as an innovative company where everyone’s voice is important but this is definitely not the case in every office. Feedback is not encouraged and if anything you’re likely to be called out for voicing any kind of critical opinions, even though there are clearly many things that aren’t working. There’s also blatant favoritism among managers who regularly gossip openly about other employees. In general the culture is very petty and unprofessional and this doesn't seem like it will ever change - -they would rather let dissatisfied employees leave than try to change any of the internal issues. The sales department especially tends to hire employees straight out of college and the HR dept is barely developed so the work environment is very childish and inappropriate. This can be fun for a while but it definitely gets old. Ultimately I would not recommend anyone waste their time here.

Pros

If you are the type of person to be distracted by perks such as snacks and monthly happy hours, Indeed is the place for you. When I first started, I had a genuine love for Indeed's mission and I believed that our company had its employees/clients/job seekers best interests at heart. For example, the work/life balance at Indeed is great, and there's healthcare coverage! The maternity leave here is awesome, and there are some outreach efforts to impact our surrounding community. There is also a portal dedicated to internal mobility-- but the reality of internal growth opportunities is less promising than presented.

Cons

If you're not in one of the main office branches, you can't expect any personal development or career openings for further growth. Additionally, you may have a Manager/Director who will tell you that your feedback is valuable, but will in turn negate any feedback you share; no matter how tactfully you’ve presented it. In some instances, feedback given has been used to negatively impact employees during quarterly reviews. This kind of gaslighting is disappointing, but it's what you can expect if you plan to work in the San Mateo office. Further, there is blatant favoritism amongst Managers/Directors, even to the point of promoting less experienced Indeed employees to senior positions. Given how political the office culture is, it's starting to resemble high school as opposed to a professional working environment. Managers will often be involved in conversations that are inappropriate for a workplace, and given the corporate structure, there is little that can be done without repercussion. If you're interested in switching departments, or further developing from the role in which you begin, this is likely not the place for you. It seems to me that Indeed relies on its brand name to attract new talent and indoctrinate new hires into believing that Indeed values more than just its bottom line. In reality, when employees find that this is not the case and leave, this never-ending cycle continues to perpetuate. Many of our most senior employees (3-4 years) have already left Indeed for this reason-- including a CS Manager, who helped influenced the San Mateo office in a positive way. I know that Indeed will do well as its brand will continue to attract new talent, but if I can give you my honest advice after having worked here: please don’t waste your time.
