Pros

I stole the title of this review from our COO - but I really believe in it. HubSpot is a place where people really pour their heart into their work. Many do it because they believe in HubSpot's mission, some do it because they believe in their team and their coworkers, others because they want to succeed personally. But the one common thread with everyone I've reported to, worked alongside, and even hired, was the passionate commitment to doing their best work here. This has led to me, specifically, experiencing an incredible amount of personal growth - as I'm constantly learning from amazingly wise and intelligent people.

Cons

HubSpot's grown rapidly over the last several years, and despite our 'startup like culture' (which is a phrase that has become ubiquitous and meaningless) HubSpot is a big company. Our cultural values have helped us maintain a high bar for employees, but there's a near-constant battle being fought against complacency, routine, and excessive process. You really do drive your own success here, but you'll occasionally need to carry the weight of others on the way to the top. If you come in with the expectation that HubSpot is a mythical unicorn that every employee rides off into the sunset, you will be disappointed. You need to work hard, and put up with the occasional amount of bulls*%&.

Thank you for the review, and completely agree--HubSpot is not a mythical being, nor are we perfect, but our commitment to evolving and growing is both consistent and remarkable. I love hearing that you feel people pour their heart into their work (I agree) and that you refer to our colleagues as wise, I happen to agree with you there too. Appreciate you helping our customers succeed as a leader on the IS team, and taking the time to write up a review--I'm very grateful. -Katie

Always Learning & Growing

Pros

HubSpot is in its 10th year as a company, and is really hittings its stride. Other the years we've really learned a lot as a a company and as a culture. There's room to grow in ones career, make lateral movement, try new things, hear your ideas be heard, and so much more. The culture is one of a kind, as well as the people within.

Cons

HubSpot isn't a corporate company, in terms of culture. There's a lot of autonomy and not a lot of strict black and white rules. If you're looking for that structure, this place will be a tough transition. It's up to the individual and the employees as a whole to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Thank you for the write-up and your feedback! I would agree that our people are one of a kind, I never get sick of meeting new people who join, it's inspiring and humbling, even at our size. I think you're spot on that our structure lends itself to people comfortable with ambiguity, and I think your caution to ensure that we stay transparent and appreciative of where we have been as an organization is critical. Thanks for the reminder and for your hard work helping HubSpot grow globally! -Katie

Still in Love After 6 Years

Pros

In my 6 years at HubSpot there's been an incredible evolution from 170 to well over a thousand employees. We've gone from a scrappy startup to a legit business. While quite a lot has changed, the reason I joined is the reason I stay - I'm constantly surrounded by bright, engaged, dedicated colleagues. People who work at HubSpot really care about the company and we've continued to attract exceptional talent. What this means for me is that, while the business has evolved, I've never had to have a meeting with a manager who's too busy to help or a colleague who's disengaged. This is a drama-free environment because the people who work at HubSpot are here quite voluntarily. HubSpot is generous with employees - but it's not over the top. Motivation to be work here is largely *intrinsic.* We're not here for a free breakfast, lunch and dinner, free dry cleaning, or whatever nonsense other tech companies divert into retaining employees. I find my managers, my colleagues and my team are here because they love the work. And when you enjoy your work and the people you work with, it's an awesome place to forge a career.

Cons

As we grow, it's been difficult to keep track of what's going on across the business. This is a little disorienting because I had been used to better understanding all of the moving parts.

I really loved what you said about intrinsic motivation--you captured eloquently what I think a lot of us feel around here, so thank you for that, a very thoughtful review, and six years of service--I hope you went somewhere fun on your sabbatical! I agree with your push on keeping track of everything--hopefully some of the new communications initiatives will help there, but keep us honestly on that. Regarding unlimited vacation, two years ago we did the reset on vacation so folks knew a) they can and should take vacation and b) that it's welcome and encouraged and part of the priorities for everyone, including management--perhaps we should revisit that conversation again. Either way, thank you for sharing your feedback and all your hard work over six years, we are deeply appreciative of all your contributions. Sincerely, Katie
