Pros

GSK really cares about their employees. They have great employee benefits, including an excellent health and wellbeing programme. Work life balance is good, but of course depends on your manager and department, as well as timings of the year. GSK house in Brentford is a nice workplace. Everything you need is available in one building including a hair dresser, mini supermarket, restaurants and gym.

Cons

Despite being such a large company with many great benefits GSK does not provide their employees with any free refreshments/food at work - not even a piece of fruit. Instant coffee is all there is. They have just introduced a new company policy which does not allow employees to buy lunch on behalf of the company for attendees when you are in a lunchtime working meeting. In addition there are now much stricter rules for expenses when travelling, so even if you have to spend time on a day off for business travel, the company does not pay for any food during the travels.

R&D leadership is weak

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

A lot of career development opportunities within the company

Cons

Very weak senior R&D management team---all of them in learning mode for over a year--the R&D leadership has little experience of R&D management, the medical leadership is extremely week and politics prone, and many category R&D vps have no category experience before their assumption of the roles.

De-emphasizing US market and workforce

Business Outlook

Pros

Good pay and benefits, diverse set of responsibilities in your roles, great mission to help people feel better and live longer.

Cons

Company's focus is on emerging markets and is taking resources from US to address this focus. Senior management is inexperienced. There is a bias against older workers with a feeling that energy is an exclusive of youth. Working smart counts for less.
