Pros

For a placement student, it's very easy to find a company where you are seen as ‘just another intern', working on specific projects designed for your level of business experience. At FDM, I am the only placement student for my role and it makes a big difference to have that kind of automatic integration with the rest of the workforce. I am undertaking new tasks daily and work with various departments within the company, meaning that I can leave FDM after 12 months knowing that I have developed in multiple areas. Most of all, these tasks are significant to the company which of course makes me feel valued.

Cons

Working hours can be demanding around university events but it's part of the job.

Pros

2 months of training on UNIX, Java, Web development with JavaScript and JSP + Communication training so you are also trained for tackling technical interviews and presentations There are salaries for training and the clients you will work for after the training are mainly global commercial and investment banks so you have plenty of exposure working in the business environment

Cons

There is a penalty fee if you break the 2-year contract, however it is there to protect the company as they provide you 2-3 months of training
